Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a river flood warning for the Haw River at the town of Haw River in Alamance County and for the Rocky River near Norwood in Stanly County and adjacent areas in Anson County.
The Haw River had risen to near flood stage by early Sunday afternoon. The flood stage is 18 feet. The Haw will crest at 19 to 20 feet Sunday night.
The Rocky River rose above flood stage Sunday afternoon. The flood stage is 15 feet. It will crest at 20 to 21 feet at Norwood Sunday night.
The weather service advises people with interests along these rivers to take precautions to ensure that life and property are safe.
Many areas of the state got more than 2 inches of rain, with 2.5 inches recorded in Siler City and 2.42 inches reported in Brevard. Areas of Hoke and Scotland counties received around 2.5 inches.
The National Weather Service posted flood warnings for the Neuse, Tar, Lumber and Cape Fear rivers in response to downpours.
The rains caused street flooding in many North Carolina towns and cities.
