RALEIGH — Local children will be protected from the cold this winter, thanks many generous people in the WRAL-TV5 viewing area.
Hundreds of people donated winter jackets for the WRAL-TV5 "Coats for the Children" campaign.
Volunteers from WRAL and sister station FOX 50 helped count and sort the coats Saturday. Some families would have to do without if it weren't for viewers' generosity.
"Coats For The Children" is run in cooperation with the Salvation Army, and benefits families the Salvation Army identifies as needing winter clothing."
Last year 5600 coats were collected.
Volunteers hope that number will be exceeded this year.
