Police Investigate Trio of Late Night Armed Robberies

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Three cities; three armed robberies. And they all happened within a few hours of each other. Police from Clayton, Garner and N.C. State University are comparing notes to see if the same people are responsible for a series of robberies Sunday night.

The robberies happened in public places that anyone would consider safe. The first took place at a supermarket parking lot in Clayton around 11 p.m. About two hours later, a second robbery took place in the parking lot of a Garner grocery store. Soon after, yet another robbery took place. This time, at a student parking lot on the campus of N.C. State.

Police have not confirmed a connection between the three cases, but the crimes are similar, and they all happened late Sunday night.

"We've assigned an investigator," says Lt. Wayne Moore of the Garner Police Department. "And yes, we'll be working with other agencies to see if there are any similarities with their robberies."

The victims say the suspect carried a small silver-type handgun and demanded cash. No one was hurt, but students who park in the lot near N.C. State'sWood Residence Hallsay it's another reminder to be careful, especially at night.

Many say these incidents prove that we all need to stay alert, even in places that usually seem secure.

To stay safe, police recommend you walk with a friend, keep an eye out for people around you and have your keys in your hands before you get to your car or residence.
