FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County authorities are looking for leads to help them identify a badly decomposed body found along the banks of the Cape Fear River near Fayetteville's Arnett Park.
Shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday, two men fishing along the river discovered what appeared to be a white male body lying along an embankment. The body had been there for approximately 10 to 14 days, according to a Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
The victim, whose age could not be determined, was wearing back sweat pants, a light-colored long-sleeved T-shirt, Wilson tennis shoes and a watch with a black vinyl band on his left wrist.
Authorities have not speculated on the cause of death and are treating the death as suspicious. The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
