Duke Children's Classic Delivered a Weekend of Fun for a Great Cause

Posted Updated

DURHAM — The weather was plenty hot -- in the 90s -- and sun was in abundance for the annual Duke Children's Classic. Given that golf and tennis are highlights of the weekend, it always helps when the weather decides to cooperate.

This weekend marked the 25th anniversary of this fundraiser for Duke Children's Hospital. This year dozens of celebrities, including honorary chairman Jeff Foxworthy and NBA star Charles Barkley were on hand for golf May 30 and 31 at Duke University Golf Course.

There's more to come. Golf fans won't want to miss the Classic's dream round on June 1, featuring Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Fred Couples and Michelle McGann! Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased by calling (919) 681-BLUE. Tee time is 1 p.m.

Topping it all off was the Classic Celebrity Show Saturday night at the Carolina Theatre in Durham. The show was sold out, but fans watched on a huge screen and enjoyed festivities outside the theater.

The Duke Children's Classic is one of the nation's longest-running celebrity golf and tennis tournaments. Through the years, it has raised more than $9.2 million.
