The Christmas morning fire not only destroyed thousands of dollars worth of clothes and furniture, it also burned family photos and other irreplaceable personal items including Christmas gifts.
Now dozens of folks, many from far away, are giving what they can so the Macks can start over.
"We have gotten calls from Cary, Apex, Wake Forest and Goldsboro. Not just from the Fayetteville area but from everywhere else. It's been great," said Arlene Martinez, a family friend.
Concerned Carolinians have already dropped off clothes, toys and money. Even a television and microwave have been donated.
The family's neighbors and friends are spearheading the effort. They say the Macks are overwhelmed by all the help.
"They've been by several times and seen everything that was donated to them, and they're very happy and pleased with the response that the community has given them. It's just great," explained Sgt. Barry Feliciano, a family friend.
Friends and family members say the outpouring is proof that Christmas is truly the giving season.
The little boy injured in that fire, Demetrius Battle, is still being treated at UNC Hospitals Jaycee Burn Center.
