FAYETTEVILLE — Preliminary autopsy results indicated that Sunday night's death of an 18-month-old girl was not a result of drowning. Early Friday morning, Fayetteville police arrested Jimmy Tyrone Baldwin for the death of Khaleah Wall.

Police said at the time of Wall's death that they considered the circumstances suspicious. The state medical examiner's office confirmed those suspicions, and reported that the girl died from blunt force injuries to the abdomen.

Police say the toddler was being watched by Bladwin at the time of her death. Her mother was at work.

Baldwin is charged with first degree murder, first degree sexual assault and taking indecent liberties with a child.

He originally told police the little girl was in the bathtub when he stepped away to answer the phone. He claimed that the next time he checked on her, she had drowned.
