Fire Injures Seven at Fort Bragg

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG — A Fort Bragg family woke up to a fire, not presents, this Christmas morning.

Seven people were inside the home on post when the fire started.

A 3-year-old child sustained second degree burns and is in serious condition at the UNC Burn Center at Chapel Hill. Two other young children and a teenager are hospitalized with minor injuries.

Their injuries could have been a lot worse had it not been for the quick thinking of neighbors who rescued one of the children from the burning home and helped provide medical treatment to the others.

"I'm heartbroken this happened. I am glad they had help there, and I know they are going to pull through because their family is together," said Fort Bragg soldier Spc. Danny DiRico.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but officials have ruled out a space heater and Christmas decorations.
