IRS Offer "Problem Solving Day" for Taxpayers

Posted Updated

DURHAM — The IRS is opening its doors to taxpayers in the Durham-Chapel Hill area to attend a Problem Solving Day on Tuesday, December 8, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The office is located at 3308 Chapel Hill Blvd., Room 140.

During the same time period, the N.C. Department of Revenue will open its doors to help taxpayers with state-related problems. That office location is 3326 Chapel Hill Blvd., Bldg. "D".

"IRS and NCDOR are joining together in our second cooperative effort to reach out to taxpayers who have been unable to resolve their tax problems through normal channels," said J.R. Starkey, IRS North-South Carolina District Director. "Extending our office hours is an extension of our commitment to offer better customer service to the taxpaying public."

Taxpayers should call 336-378-2334 for assistance with federal problems or to schedule an appointment. For state problems and/or concerns, call 919-560-6801.

Even though appointments are encouraged, walk-ins will be assisted on a first come, first served basis. Taxpayers are asked to bring all related correspondence.

Call 1-800-829-1040 to get federal tax assistance, Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Beginning in January 1999, tax assistance will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 919-560-6801 for all state-related issues.
