Raleigh Minister Stabbed in Burglary

RALEIGH — A Raleigh minister was in stable condition Wednesday night after he was stabbed outside his Wingate Drive home.

Conway B. Lanford, 55, the minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church came home Tuesday and noticed a car in his driveway.

Two men had broken in through a back door.

After discovering them, Lanford tried to run away, but the burglars confronted him outside his home and one stabbed him in the abdomen and hip. Police reported the knife blade was 8 to 10 inches long.

Lanford dialed 911 as the men drove away in a red Ford Taurus or Contour.

Officer are looking for 21-year-old Eric Watson from Knightdale. He is a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 165 to 170 pounds, with short, straight black hair and a light mustache. He is thought to be in his early 20s.

The second suspect who ran from the scene has not been identified.
