One Man Killed in I-40 Accident, Lanes Reopened

RALEIGH — One man is dead after a traffic accident on Interstate 40 Monday.

William J. Davis, 54, was killed when he was outside of his transfer truck checking a load of pipes. The crash occurred in the noon hour on I-40 near Jones Sausage Road.

The highway partrol said a second tractor trailer slammed into the first truck, which hit Davis who was inspecting the load he was carrying.

Davis was from Zebulon and was driving for the N.C. Department of Correction. The highway patrol is still investigating.

The highway patrol had to reroute I-40 East traffic along a detour. The detour was in effect until about 4:30 p.m.
