The Farm Labor Organizing Committee is trying to improve the wages and working conditions of the migrant workers who harvest cucumbers used in the company's pickles.
The president of Mount Olive Pickle says the company is being targeted because it has a recognized name.
About 100 union organizers were expected at a meeting in Durham Sunday to talk about a possible boycott.
Instead of targeting each farmer that hires migrant laborers, the union is pressuring the company that buys the harvested cucumbers. Organizers say Mount Olive Pickle can insist that its farmers adopt minimum wage and workplace standards.
Some labor leaders say threatening to hurt the company's sales with a boycott is the only way to get the attention of executives.
