Body Recovered from Falls Lake

print friendly

Divers have located the body of a man who drowned in Falls Lake Saturday.

Richard Glenn Fields, 36, of Durham drowned after jumping off of a boat anchored near the Upper Barton's Creek boat launch.

Searchers looked for the body seven hours before locating it in 16-foot water about 40 feet from shore.

Fields and four companions had been swimming. Witnesses said he did a backflip off their cabin cruiser but did not resurface immediately. They saw his body surface twice and then disappear for good.

The situation was reported to authorities at 11:20 a.m. Two civilian boats participated in the search, along with rescue units from Bayleaf and Six Forks. Divers were brought in later.

An investigation is under way.
