Authorities Postpone Search for Falls Lake Drowning Victim

Posted Updated

WAKE COUNTY — Rescue and recovery teams searched a cove in Falls Lake for a man who drowned there Saturday morning, but did not find the body. The search ended at dusk and will resume Sunday morning.

The man was with a group of adults near the Upper Barton's Creek Boat Ramp on Six Forks Road Saturday morning when the accident occurred.

"Several witnesses said the person was jumping on and off the boat, engaged in some type of play, and the person came up from the water floating," Sgt. L.W. Lockett said.

The Wake County Sheriff's Department was notified around 11 a.m., and called in several agencies to help.

Lockett said teams from the Bay Leaf Fire Department, Six Forks Station, and Parks and Recreation, among others, will work together to find the body.

Officials have not yet determined if alcohol was involved.
