CARRBORO, N.C. — After a string of legal troubles, Carrboro's fire chief resigned Monday.
Police arrested Rodney Murray on stalking charges New Year's Eve; the week before, they arrested him on charges of driving while impaired.
Court records show Murray also owes the Internal Revenue Service more than $55,000 in unpaid taxes and penalties.
Murray is currently on medical leave. His resignation is effective March 1, when his leave ends.
Deputy Fire Chief Travis Crabtree has assumed the duties of Carrboro fire chief while Murray was on leave. Town officials have not commented on whether Crabtree will serve as Murray's permanent replacement.
