2 Hearings Delayed in Wake of VT Tragedy

Posted April 24, 2007

— The Virginia Tech tragedy prompted Orange County officials to postpone two court hearings.

Alvero Castillo is charged with killing his father and opening fire at Orange High school in August 2006. William Barrett Foster is charged with holding a teacher and fellow student hostage at gunpoint.

Both teens were scheduled to be in court Wednesday, but court officials decided in light of the shootings at Virginia Tech, it would be best to delay the hearings until later in April.

Delaying will give them less to appeal the decision with in the end. Hate for it to end in mistrial. This way is painful for victims, but probably better in the long run.

Who really cares if they delay the murder hearings, they are guilty as hell, so keeping them in jail a little longer who cares. We are going to have to pay now or later because they are not getting out of jail.

"Now we have to pay MORE money to house them in prison while they await their trials." This costs you exactly zero extra money for jail time -- time served is subtracted from the sentence. If you want to save money, you could always let them out on bail.

What I don't quite understand is that he didn't give my daughter or any of the other kids out there time to think about running while he was thinking about shooting. Why should he be given time for our thoughts to slowly forget VT. I don't think anyone will forget about it. He has admitted to it. If anything the longer it takes for him to appear the madder people involved with this case get.

yes, you are correct, I couldn't of said it better. I reckon the lawyers need to make a few $'s.

Later in April, I don't think there's much left of April as it is. What does it have to do with VT anyway?????

Try him now, he deserves the harshest punishment they can give. Maybe it'll help jurors to be tough!

so you admit to killing your father, shooting at a school, and you were caught at it.. why are we even having a stupid trial?

  • 2 Apr 24, 2007

just wasting $ and putting off the inevitable. I wish they would have tried it just to make the point it is wrong (innocent till proven otherwise) and you cant expect leniancy in the judicial system.

Why delay? Is it not obvious to people that with the Virginia Tech shootings so recent, that people might make decisions based more on emotion than fact. If they're guilty, light'em up (especially concerning the case where someone died), but I understand why there is a delay, though I'm not sure it will matter.
