WILLOW SPRINGS, N.C. — A 9-month-old girl who was seriously injured in an accident Friday morning has died.
Katelyn Kelbaugh died at WakeMed Saturday evening as a result of injuries she received in a two-vehicle accident.
Authorities say her grandmother, Cathy Royal, of Garner, was going south on Hilltop Road and was attempting to turn left on N.C. Highway 42 when she ran a stop sign and hit a work van that was traveling east.
Royal and her grandson, 15-year-old Jonathan Royal, were taken to WakeMed with minor injuries. Six people in the van were also injured.
Authorities charged Royal with a stop sign violation. They have not said whether she faces any other charges in connection with the child's death.
