New Hanover: Digging Out of the Sandbox

Posted Updated

WRIGHTSVILLE — The people in New Hanover county consider themselves lucky. They are very familiar with the power of hurricanes, and are glad that most everything is still intact.

Carolina and Kure Beaches both experienced some damage. The biggest problem is that many of the roads are covered with sand. Local officials expect the clean-up process to take two or three weeks.

Residents were allowed to return to Wrightsville Beach, and town leaders are planning to open the beach to the public Friday afternoon.

Contractors, utility crews and insurance adjusters are abundant as they assess the damage, and begin the repairs. The water was turned back on and only a few people are without power.

People in the area are generally in a good mood because they expected to get hit much harder. However, they are keeping an eye on Hurricane Daniel.
