2 Women's Bodies Found in Cumberland County

Posted Updated

FAYETTTEVILLE — Early Monday morning the bodies of two women were found in a field north of Fayetteville.

Investigation is under way into what is believed to be a double murder.

Identities of the victims has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators said the women are thought to be under 20 years of age.

Louis McNeill, a farmer, found the women in his field when he and other men went to harvest peas.

The men called the Cumberland County Sheriff's office, which brought in investigators and tracking dogs.

Although there was rain over much of the state Sunday night, the area around Linden, where the bodies were found, remained dry.

The sheriff's office said their first priority is getting the women identified so their families can be contacted.
