Police: Teacher's Assistant Took Indecent Liberties With 13-Year-Old

A teacher’s assistant with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school system was arrested Wednesday and fired by the school board Thursday for allegedly taking advantage of a 13-year-old girl.

Travis Thompson, 39, is charged with taking indecent liberties with a child and indecent exposure. The incident took place at McDougle Middle School, according to police.

The girl’s parents notified school officials last Friday. The teen told officers the incident happened in February while Thompson was working as a substitute teacher.

Last month, Thompson was hired full-time to work as a teacher’s assistant in the exceptional education program.

He is out on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to be back in court next month.

This guy went about it all wrong. Since he was in Carrboro he should have claimed that he was investigating an alternate life style.

I watched the video on WTVD's website. He is soooo screwed.

You can home school your child and protect them for a while but eventually they have to go out into the real world. The key is to have a strong relationship so they can tell you when something like this goes on.

As far as the 10,000 bond, that is just silly. We should make it a little harder for people to get out of jail (in general). I think that we are way too easy on our criminals in NC. If this guy spent too much time in prison I am sure someone would punish him more than the courts ever would.

Another teacher,,,,I'm not surprised.

Home school immediately,, people! Kids are better educated and they won't be victimized.

I read this story and this CLOWN gets out on a 10 grand bond. I read another story where a guys simply growing some pot and his bonds 150 grand, thinking the Judges need to wake up

What are people like this thinking?? 39 yrs old, HELLO!!! Pal the very least of your worrys would be your court troubles
