Carrboro, N.C. — A teacher’s assistant with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school system was arrested Wednesday and fired by the school board Thursday for allegedly taking advantage of a 13-year-old girl.
Travis Thompson, 39, is charged with taking indecent liberties with a child and indecent exposure. The incident took place at McDougle Middle School, according to police.
The girl’s parents notified school officials last Friday. The teen told officers the incident happened in February while Thompson was working as a substitute teacher.
Last month, Thompson was hired full-time to work as a teacher’s assistant in the exceptional education program.
He is out on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to be back in court next month.

As far as the 10,000 bond, that is just silly. We should make it a little harder for people to get out of jail (in general). I think that we are way too easy on our criminals in NC. If this guy spent too much time in prison I am sure someone would punish him more than the courts ever would.
