Two Suspects Questioned for McNeill Murder

Twenty-year-old Brandi Lee Jeter was arrested for obtaining property by false pretenses after officers learned she, her boyfriend and another man went on a shopping spree at Crabtree Valley Mall with McNeill's credit cards. Police did not plan to charge Jeter with the murder.

Jeter's boyfriend, Charles Bernard Robinson, also was being questioned about the homicide Friday night.

A third suspect, 34-year-old Nathaniel Fair Junior, had not been located at the time of this report. Officers believe he may be hanging out in either Raleigh or Fayetteville. Fair is considered the main murder suspect.

Jeter, who has no previous criminal record, and the other two suspects reportedly spent hundreds of dollars with the stolen cards just hours after McNeill was killed.

McNeill's Ford Explorer was found at Crabtree Valley Mall Thursday night, just hours after his body was discovered near a vacant lot in West Raleigh.

"The detectives assigned the case found the vehicle abandoned in the area of the Kanki restaurant, the lower level of the mall on the Glenwood Avenue side," Captain Mike Longmire said.

Police say detectives are scanning videotape to determine whether mall security cameras got a picture of whomever left the Explorer there. Police refused to release any details about how McNeill died, except to say that it was a homicide.

The last time the Wake County educator was seen alive was Tuesday night as he left the Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Harnett County. He was reportedly carrying $400 to deposit into a nearby bank. That deposit was never made.

McNeill's sister wonders why her brother had to die.

"All they had to do was just ask," Alda Blue said. "He would have given it [to them]. He would not have fought. He'd have given it all up if they had just left him on the highway, rather than doing what they did."

Police are still asking the public for help in tracking down McNeill's killer. They're especially interested in talking with anyone who may have seen the Ford Explorer at Crabtree Valley Mall over the past couple of days.
