SANFORD — A two-year-old child was shot in the chest late Wednesday night. Thursday morning, she was fighting for life.
The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. in a mobile home near the intersection of Bela Bridge Road and McDougal.
Investigators say the child's mother and grandmother were in the house at the time.
Police say Aliah Ware accidentally shot her daughter, Aliah Sparks, when a shotgun went off as she was putting it away. She told police she had gotten it out earlier when she heard suspicious noises in her yard.
The child was taken to Central Carolina hospital in Sanford.
