Power Still Off for Hundreds of N.C. Residents

Posted April 18, 2007

More than 50,000 people in North Carolina are still without power because of Monday's windy weather.

Duke Energy officials said at one point, there were 217,500 outages statewide. Progress Energy said there were 70,000 outages at its peak.

Officials also said it could be Thursday before all the lights are back on in Durham and Orange counties.

Duke Energy said more than 250 customers in Orange County and almost 200 customers in Durham County remain without power.

Progress Energy is not reporting any remaining outages in the Raleigh area.

I better get a discount on this month's electrical bill. My power was off for more than a day.

The power was out in Sanford for about an hour, 2 hours after it came back on we recieved a recorded phone call that we would be with out power until Wednesday. Our business phones don't work with out power, glad they waited until it was back on to call. I just had to share, I do feel for all the folks w/o power, it is sad and Duke Power should do better. I'm glad I don't live in their area and for those that do, they deserve better service.

I don't understand why Duke Energy is ALWAYS the last company to get power back on? Duke Energy should be held to the same stringencies they hold their customers to. For instance, if you forget to pay your bill and it falls into "past due status" Duke Energy expects their customers to pay their past due bills by their specific appointed date (which is fine) but it gets better, the payment MUST BE POSTED TO YOUR ACCT by 5pm on their appointed day! I'm serious! I called in a payment on my way home and because the payment posted to my account at 5:04pm they still came out and disconnected the power the next day. Imagine our surprise!
