Science Spoken Here

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL — A creative approach to a science lesson about liquids can be completely lost on a student who can't speak English. This summer, UNC Chapel Hill's Family Science Program is coming to the rescue.

Hispanic students are paired with student teachers who are learning how to make hands-on experiments fun, bridging the language barrier for the kids and their parents.

"It helps them to develop confidence in doing science and confidence in coming to the school and being involved in the school, so we hope it will open other doors," says

The science program uses convenient and inexpensive materials so students can repeat the experiments at home with mom and dad.
