N.C. Unveils New License Plate Design

Posted April 16, 2007

— Starting Monday, North Carolina has a new license plate design.

The letters on license plates will be red instead of blue. Officials said the change is necessary because the blue ink is fading on some plates.

It will be the first change in 25 years. North Carolina has the second oldest license plate design in the nation.

They need to take a look at the stickes they put on the plate more so than the paint. They either put colors that look like each other in back to back years and eventaully fade so that they do look at each other. The problem with the 07 green stickers is that the blue ones at night look just like them. By not changing the varirations in color it makes it difficult to enforce.

Good call, Sunny. Likewise to Caryisforyankees and InmyOpinion. Our '78 Olds with 350k+ daily miles will NOT get a new/fashionable plate. Our blue letters/numbers are clear as the sky over our beautiful state. Dare they fade? $5 at Wal-Mart for hobby paint and a small brush. Wish our Gubiner and Co. were more concerned with a balanced budget and FURTHER improving our state's status than tax-based aesthetics.
