Pa. Man Arrested After Hit-and-Run Involving Officer

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Highway Patrol is trying to determine whether a hit-and-run involving a Hillsborough police officer was intentional.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday along U.S. Highway 70 in Orange County, authorities said.

Dillon told the Highway Patrol he had stopped a vehicle driven by Sean Joseph Obermeier, 39, of Pittsburgh, because it was traveling eratically. He said he was proceeding to exit his cruiser when Obermeier backed his vehicle and slammed into the driver's door of Dillon's cruiser.

Obermeier continued eastbound on U.S. 70 and was apprehended in Durham about 15 minutes, the Highway Patrol said.

He faces a felony charge of fleeing to elude arrest in a motor vehicle as well as a number of other charges, including assault on a law enforcement officer resulting in an injury, assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving.
