LILLINGTON — Five cows are dead after an early morning accident on Highway 421 in Harnett County, near the Lee County line.
Just after midnight, a car traveling on 421 hit the cows, which had apparently escaped from a nearby farm.
The man in the vehicle escaped unscathed -- but his car didn't. It was totaled. The sheriff's department says that the man was extremely lucky.
The animals were Jersey Mix cows.
