Former NCSU Athlete Dies in Wreck

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — A one-vehicle crash on Raleigh's Beltline Saturday night claimed the life of a former soccer player at NC State University. Robin Morlock, 23, died after the truck in which she was riding hit a median and flipped.

The truck was driven by her friend and former soccer teammate Stacey Hampton, 22. Hampton is in satisfactory condition at WakeMed. Her leg was broken and she received some scrapes.

The other passenger, Laura Ferguson, 20, received only minor cuts. She, too, had been on the Wolfpack women's soccer team.

The three were heading for Hillsborough Street to meet friends after watching Hampton play in a Raleigh Wings game.

Witnesses said the truck was moving at a very high rate of speed, and that the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. The crash occurred between Western Boulevard and Hillsborough Street, about 10:30 Saturday night.

Investigators said no alcoholic beverage containers were found in or near the truck.

Morlock was from Brookfield, Conn. She had been working in the sports information office at NCSU, and was taking graduate courses.
