Fire Destroys Roanoke Rapids Store

Posted Updated

ROANOKE RAPIDS — An overnight fire has destroyed the Heilig-Myers furniture store.

Fire chief Lynn Little said his crew was wrapping up a dumpster fire up the street when they got a call that a dumpster next to Heilig-Myers was on fire. Both dumpsters are on 10th Street.

The second fire ignited some material next to the dumpster, which set the building on fire. Little says Heilig-Myers burned to the ground.

Little has not released information on how either fire began.

There were no injuries.

The two fires were about a quarter of a mile from each other. The first fire was at a dumpster next to a Sherwin-Williams store.
