SMITHFIELD — A 10-year-old child died this afternoon after being hit by a car in eastern Johnston County.
The highway patrol said Jamie Warren was struck by a Blazer while trying to cross North Pleasant Coats Road about 2 p.m.
Investigation showed she ran out in front of the vehicle while returning home from a neighbor's house. She was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital, where she died a short time later.
The driver of the Blazer will not be charged.
