Airborne Honored at Ft. Bragg

The Special Forces soldiers who lost their lives in the past year were remembered by name.

A special wall is covered with plaques bearing the names of those who served and died in earlier years.

SGM Harold Gacobson, USA Ret., told the assembled crowd that the soldiers had answered the call for freedom, and paid with their lives.

MSG James Dean, executive secretary of the Special Forces Association, said a strong kinship bonds the military.

Dean said he served in a time when you had to trust the man on each side of you implicitly "or you were dead, and that is how important it is to us."

Hal Maggio, wearing his beret, said he places a single red rose at the Green Berets' statue to remember his comrades.

"Since I have a love for the troops that served with me," he said.
