Man Charged with Robbery, Kidnapping, Sexual Assault in Wake County

RALEIGH — Sheriff's deputies have charged a Wake County man with rape, robbery and attempted murder after a woman and her daughter were terrorized in their home just north of Raleigh.

Bem K, Holloway, 20, was charged with two counts each of first-degree kidnapping and rape, attempted murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of breaking, entering and larceny and possession of stolen property. He is being held in the Wake County Jail, with bail set at $2 million.

Holloway was paroled in March after serving time for a 1993 conviction on breaking, entering and larceny charges. The house Holloway broke into five years ago was in the same area.

Holloway lives less than a mile from the victims, in the same neighborhood. He was arrested between 5 and 6 p.m. in the emergency room of Duke University Medical Center.

Investigators say the latest incident, in the Stonebridge subdivision, began about 2 p.m. Wednesday. They say a 22-year-old Wake Technical Community College student came home and surprised a burglar.

"He restrained her," said Major Danny Bellamy. "He kept her in this house for some six hours total. During that time he tied her up, sexually assaulted her, as well as assaulted her with a weapon."

About 7 p.m., officers say the woman's mother came home, and the suspect kidnapped her too. After being held captive for hours, the daughter managed to escape.

"The younger girl got loose first and ran next door to a neighbor and called for help," Bellamy continued. "And about that time, her mother managed to get away. But how they did it, I do not know right now."

Both women were taken to the hospital and treated for minor cuts.

Wake County Sheriff John Baker credited residents of Stonebridge with helping authorities make a quick arrest.
