RALEIGH — A three car crash in Raleigh slowed and, in some cases, stopped the afternoon beltline commute. At one point, police were actually guiding motorists through u-turns on the beltline to clear the area around the wreck.
The accident occurred on the inner loop of the Interstate-440 beltline between the Athens Drive Bridge and the Melbourne Road exit at about 5 p.m.
The northbound lanes were blocked when traffic is backed up for several miles.
Police asked everyone traveling from Cary to Raleigh to take an alternate route.
