SBI Investigating Another Sewage Spill in Kinston

Posted Updated

KINSTON — The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into another sewage spill at one of Kinston's treatment plants. The latest incident occurred at the city's Northside Plant.

Officials estimate nearly 400,000 gallons of sludge poured through an open valve into the plant's aeration basin.

The SBI wants to know if any criminal misconduct was involved.

The latest spill comes just two weeks after workers discovered millions of gallons of sludge spilled out of Kinston's Peachtree plant.

Kinston has been plagued with spills and other problems with its aging water treatment system in recent months.
