Officer Convicted in Durham Peeping Case Loses Appeal

A convicted sex offender who thought his fine was excessive lost his appeal.

DURHAM, N.C. — A convicted sex offender who thought his fine was excessive lost his appeal.

Billy Apple, a former Durham police detective and high school coach, pleaded guilty in 2004 to peeping charges. Authorities said  Apple secretly videotaped dozens of young women at a tanning salon he owned in Hillsborough.

Apple did not have to serve any active jail time, but he was fined $64,000.
