CARY — Cary town leaders are patting themselves on the back and looking forward to some increased funding from the state.
The state bases its appropriations to cities according to population. Recently, Cary disputed figures in a state census that showed the population to be smaller than they believed it to be. The town asked for a special census, which the state performed.
As it turns out, the statedid undercount the number of people in Cary. The unofficial count stands now at 85,000, which will give the town more than $2 million in state revenue over the next two years.
