Man Assaulted After Leaving Court

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred outside the Durham County Courthouse.

DURHAM, N.C. — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred outside the Durham County Courthouse.

The shooting occurred before 3:30 p.m. outside First Presbyterian Church, 305 E. Main St., which is across the street from the courthouse, police said.

A man who had appeared in court on domestic violence charges told police he was jumped by three men in the church parking lot. The man said he grabbed a gun from his car and fired several shots at the car he said was carrying the men who assaulted him.

No one was wounded in the shooting.

Both the man and the alleged suspects were questioned by police, but no charges have been filed in the case yet.
