Gift Ideas Mom Will Love

Posted Updated
Maybe Mom would like some colorful crystal from Sweden...
RALEIGH — She's always there, through thick and thin, so doesn't Mom deserve something really special for Mother's Day? Out & About's Tracy Wilson set off in search of great gift ideas to show Mom how much you care.

First, you should know that the most popular Mother's Day gifts are flowers, jewelry, candy and books. But there are a lot of other options too. Hudson-Belk personal shoppers recommend things that Mom might not buy for herself, like perfume, a skin care gift basket, or a music box.

The mom who has everything might like something collectible. Our personal shoppers recommend figurines, hand blown glass, or crystal. The most important point is to pay attention to the things your Mom likes and then look for collectibles that reflect her interests.

You can spoil your Mom with a wonderful spa treatment. For an added bonus, go with her so you can spend the day together!

Here are a few other ideas you might not have thought of:
  • Give long-distance moms a phone card so she can stay in touch.
  • Buy subscriptions to her favorite magazines.
  • Write a letter or poem expressing how you really feel.
  • Give her a gourmet gift basket that spoils the taste buds.
  • Treat her to a day without responsibility, taking care of everything for her, giving her a chance to do the things she loves.Although most of us would like to say money is no object when it comes to Mom, that's usually not reality. How much do you plan to spend on that special lady in your life? Men say they'll spend an average of $82 and women say they'll spend around $69. Of course, it's not the cost that counts - it's the thought!
  • The original purpose of this special day was to make new resolutions of thoughtfulness toward Mothers. That was back in 1908, when Anna Jarvis started Mother's Day in Grafton, West Virginia in honor of her deceased mother. The idea eventually spread and became nationally recognized in 1914 thanks to President Woodrow Wilson.

While gifts are something sure to put a smile on your Mom's face, how about telling her how much you love her? That's a sure way to put a smile in her heart.
