Police have arrested Wendy Lee Ballard, 37, and John Fincher Ballard, 38.

Authorities said on Dec. 27 at about 5:30 p.m., the couple robbed the Crown Fast Fare at 2516 S. Saunders St. Later that night, police say a second robbery occurred at about 9:30 p.m. at the Circle K at 2948 New Bern Ave.

The suspects are charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon -- John Ballard with two counts and Wendy Ballard with one count. During a court appearance on Friday, Wendy Ballard told a judge that a BB gun was used during a robbery. The judge said that the type of gun used did not matter.

Investigators say John Fincher Ballard has a lengthy criminal history. When police arrested him, he was already in jail in connection with a prior larceny.

Tips from viewers who saw broadcast news reports Thursday night that included surveillance video and photos from the robberies led to the identification and arrest of suspects.
