RALEIGH, N.C. — Independence Air is flying for the last time Thursday.
The airline, which had three daily round-trip flights from RDU International, is shutting down after filing for bankruptcy.
Stephen Smith is not just an Independence Air traveler, but also an employee. More than 2,700 nationwide are losing work, including 14 at RDU International.
"People have been down, but we do as best we can because we knew it was coming," he said.
Other airlines are offering displaced Independence Air travelers to fly standby for a fee or discounted fairs. Passengers with questions are encouraged to check out the company's
