In the warrants, investigators say Monique Berkley admitted that she plotted to kill her naval reservist husband, Paul Berkley, with the help of her boyfriend, Andrew Canty, and his friend, Latwon Johnson. Police say Monique Berkley lured her husband to a Raleigh park where he was shot and killed.
Monique Berkley was shot in the shoulder. Investigators say she planned to be beaten up to cover up the attack, not to be shot.
Investigators searched the couple's home, where Canty lived for a while and the dorm room at East Carolina University, where Johnson lived. Police took cell phones and computers as evidence.
Investigators believe Monique Berkley was after her husband's life insurance money, in which she was listed on his policy as the beneficiary.
