New Task Force To Address Wake County's Rapid Growth

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Officials say Wake County is growing too fast at an estimated 65 people a day. That is why a new task force met Tuesday to talk about the county's growth issues.

"Frankly, the success we've enjoyed has moved at a more rapid pace than even we anticipated the ability to support," said Chamber of Commerce President Harvey Schmitt.

The Chamber of Commerce, along with Wake County mayors and county commissioners, have recruited 50 business professionals to dig into every aspect of growth.

Members will look at everything from the need for more classrooms to water and sewer. They will also propose future funding strategies.

The committee will get feedback on its preliminary report. Committee members are expected to present a final version in May.
