Stump Dump Fire 98 Percent Extinguished

print friendly

A pesky stump dump fire in Johnston County that started in February has been almost completely put out.

Johnston County officials said the smoldering fire is about 98 percent extinguished. The blaze burned for more than two weeks before firefighters figured out how to douse it completely.

A farming irrigation system installed two weeks ago appears to be working.

Long live the stump dump!

Just curious, how much money has the county spent on putting out this fire? Which, by the way, is a private business. Everyone who knows anything about mulch knows it is combustible. When do we hear about fines applied to this company? If nothing else, they owe the people who had to live through this something for their inconvenience of all the smoke.
