RALEIGH — Raleigh Police have charged one of their own officers with failure to decrease speed to avoid a collision Monday night.

Police say Officer K.T. Pickens received a call of a rape-in-progress just before 10 p.m. Police say when he reached over to turn on his lights and siren he ran off Carolina Pines Road, then overcorrected and crossed the center line. The two vehicles collided head on.

The other driver, Louis B. Washington of Raleigh, was treated at Wake Medical Center and released.

Officer Pickens was not injured. He remains on active duty.
