A drug bust turned violent in northeast Raleigh Thursday. An officer was nearly run over and two suspects were shot. The SBI has been called in to investigate what went wrong

The shooting took place around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of New Hope Church Road and Brentwood Road in parking lot of a convenience store. Four suspects were being arrested inside their car, when they suddenly sped into Sgt. W.L. Rowe of the Wake County Sheriff's Department, knocking him back several feet. And it didn't end there.

Investigators say another officer fired his weapon when the suspects tried to hit Sgt. Rowe. In turn, two suspects were struck. The suspects drove about a mile away, where they were stopped. Neither the injuries suffered by Rowe or the suspects are considered serious.

Residents in the area are beginning to get serious themselves about increasing the safety in the community through community watch.

Brentwood resident Chester Harris says many of the homes and properties in the community are owned by landlords. He believes that may contribute to a lack of security in the area.

Neighbors say there used to be a community watch, but it was dissolved. Now they are looking to put another one together. Other residents are hoping to sell their homes in the area. Many say drugs are the reason.
