This activity bus overturned Wednesday, March 18, as it was carrying children on a visit to the zoo.

About 30 elementary students were slightly hurt Wednesday when a bus on a zoo trip overturned south of Burlington, authorities said.

The students were from Hillsborough Elementary School in Orange County, according to Benny Brooks, communications director at the Alamance County Communications Center.

Among the 46 people on the bus were parents and teachers. The North Carolina Highway Patrol said there were no serious injuries, although Brooks said one child suffered a broken wrist and one other received a concussion. That student was taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The accident happened around 9:24 a.m. at the intersection of N.C. 49 and Coble Mill Rd. in southern Alamance County.

Twenty-four students were to be transported to Alamance Regional Medical Center and six others already had been taken to the hospital on spine boards, Brooks said.

``We know we have some broken bones and arms,'' Brooks said. ``Everyone is going to the hospital to be checked, we know that.''
