Blackwell Case Begins in Durham

e-mail print friendly

Trial has begun today for a man police say was driving drunk when his vehicle hit a family van, killing a 4-year-old girl. Timothy Blackwell is charged with first-degree murder.

Jury selection in the Timothy Blackwell case began this morning in Durham County.

Little Megan Dail died when Blackwell's truck hit her father's minivan last year.

Although very few people have been charged with first-degree murder for a death caused by driving drunk, a Winston-Salem man was convicted of the charge last year when he hit and killed two Wake Forest University students. And Kentucky has similarly charged a drunk driver, but that trial has not begun.
