Elite Airborne Corps Under New Leadership

e-mail print friendly

One of the world's most elite fighting forces has a new leader. Lt. General William "Buck" Kernan became the 33rd leader of Fort Bragg and the 18th Airborne Corps at a Change of Command Ceremony Thursday.

With a 17 gun salute and the passing of unit colors, Lieutenant General William Kernan became the new commanding general at Fort Bragg. He is replacing Lieutenant General Jack Keane who will become Deputy Commander in Chief of the United States Atlantic Command at Norfolk Virginia. General David Bramlett said that Keane has enriched the Army.

The new leader of Fort Bragg says he is grateful to be following in Keane's footsteps for the second time. He also replaced Keane as commander of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell. Kernan says with Bragg troops deployed all over the world, his priorities here are clear.

Lt. General Kernan is no stranger to Fort Bragg. He has been assigned here twice before.
