Walkout Planned at UNC to Protest Iraq War

print friendly

Some Triangle college students are walking out of class Tuesday to show their resistance to the war in Iraq.

Students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will join others from across the country as the Iraq war enters its fifth year.

UNC students are expected to walk out of class at noon and hold a rally at a campus gathering spot known as "The Pit." UNC-Chapel Hill Students for a Democratic Society is organizing the walkout.

Students at campuses across the country are expected to participate in similar protests.

I don't understand what people think marching and walking out is going to do. The President and congress is going to do what they think is best. These people would better off staying in class. If they want to walk off for a cause do it for their classmates that do drugs and under age drinking.

"what the hells wrong with a rebel flag, learn history moron" I'm white and from the south...the "Heritage-not-hate" argument is spoken by most whites that hate blacks..openly or not There was and is nothing wrong with the flag..what's wrong is the way it has been "historically" (see, i know history too) part of keeping an entire race of people down..not to mention the "historical" (see-history again)connection between the people that want to preserve their heritage of whites-only..and the last historical connection(i'm so smart on history)is between the flag and the disappearance/lynching/raping/bullying/burning/ of black people by white people convinced their "historical "heritage will rise again......the civil was about states' right?..sure...the right of each state to decide if it was ok to own slaves...'nother good one jethro!,,see bok learnin'is gud for erbodi

They are learning something useful...to be part of what some call a democracy..i wouldn't protest against the war, but being smart or being an idiot is all part of growing up....at least they are standing up for what they beleive in, whether right or wrong..that's the lesson they learn..and trust me, they are not learning to support anything-but to question everything...the climate/culture at UNC is exceedingly liberal..as a byproduct, most of them regurgitate what they've been told..then they mature more..question what they were force-fed..and make more adult decisions..these are all 17-21 year old kids..some privilaged, but most actually aren't...TO all:i know i'm personally not currently doing anything to suport our troops..nor are most on here..some are for sure but most aren't..ya know why?...life's too hard..days are too short...it won't make any difference...etc....maybe if we actually did stand up for what we believed in, we could make an actual difference..

150 students out of 20000, whew what a turnout!

yeah, that'll show 'em!
