CLINTON, N.C. — A man convicted in the beating and burning of three people on Sampson County in 2003 has been sentenced to three consecutive life terms in prison.
Rafty Brown Jr. will serve the terms, which District Attorney Dewey Hudson should assure he will never be released from prison.
Brown pleaded guilty in 2005 to taking part in the killing of Jimmy Ray Turner, 41, Carrie Faith Jones, 20, and Randolph Merill Carr, 35. They were taken from a Clinton home in November 2003 and beaten to death, and their bodies were burned near the community of Keener.
Investigators said at the time that the suspects went to the house to rob the victims of drugs and money and decided to kill them to cover up the crime.
Brown was sentenced Wednesday.
